SUNRISE pursues eight specific objectives to transform solar PV education and research capacity in East Africa.
The SUNRISE project is designed around eight interconnected specific objectives that together create a comprehensive approach to strengthening solar PV education and research capacity across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Conduct comprehensive analysis of current skills gaps in solar PV education and industry needs across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to ensure SUNRISE interventions are precisely targeted and effective.
Build robust institutional capacity at partner HEIs through infrastructure development, faculty training, and establishment of SUNRISE Innovation Labs to deliver high-quality solar PV education.
Create cutting-edge learning materials, micro-courses, and Open Educational Resources (OERs) in English and Swahili that integrate digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills.
Implement and test the modernized curricula and SUNRISE Innovation Labs with students and professionals, gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
Secure formal recognition and accreditation of enhanced curricula, micro-credentials, and professional development courses at national and regional levels.
Engage stakeholders, disseminate project outcomes, influence policy, and establish mechanisms for long-term sustainability including the Community of Practice and resource mobilization strategies.
Integrate gender-responsive approaches throughout the project, ensuring equal access and participation for women and underrepresented groups in solar PV education and careers.
Foster entrepreneurial mindsets and innovation capabilities among students and professionals, supporting the creation of solar PV startups and social enterprises.
Integrated throughout all objectives, ensuring equal participation and opportunities for women in solar PV education and careers.
Fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovative solutions to solar energy challenges across all project activities.
Building long-term capacity and mechanisms for continuous improvement beyond the project lifetime.
These eight specific objectives are implemented through a structured work package approach, ensuring coordinated action across all partner institutions. Each objective contributes to the overall goal of strengthening solar PV education and research capacity in East Africa.
The objectives are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, creating a comprehensive framework that addresses curriculum development, capacity building, infrastructure enhancement, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and long-term sustainability.
