Comprehensive information about the SUNRISE project objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
SUNRISE aims at strengthening the capacity of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to advance solar photovoltaic (PV) education and research. The project will modernize six (6) existing curricula by integrating twelve (12) courses with specialized micro-courses, equipping students and faculty with advanced digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills essential for the renewable energy sector.
Through a multidisciplinary and industry-driven approach, SUNRISE will bridge the gap between academic training and labor market needs so that graduates are prepared to tackle pressing socio-economic and environmental challenges.
The project uses a comprehensive approach combining:
Modernizing and enhancing educational programs
Building capacity of academic staff
Establishing state-of-the-art facilities
Connecting academia with industry

Supporting renewable energy targets and sustainable energy practices
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy | SDG 13: Climate Action
Integration of IoT-based solar monitoring, digital energy platforms, and AI-driven grid optimization
Integrating sustainable development principles into higher education
